Yvon Chouinard is an American rock climber, philanthropist, environmentalist, and businessman in the outdoor recreation sector. The environmental commitment of his business, Patagonia, is well-known.
The father of Chouinard was a French Canadian mechanic. Yvon and his family shifted to Southern California in 1947 from Lewiston, Maine.
Chouinard enjoys tenkara fly fishing and is also an accomplished surfer, kayaker, and falconer. He has written about ethical issues related to climbing, business, and environmentalism.
